ARE WE INCREDULOUS?
As a writer of this article, I just want to express my own opinion with regards to the election system and some irregularities occur during election. I dedicate this article to my father for his total victory last October 25 election.
Election is a practice of exercising our rights, freedom and principles. It is our way of expressing and sharing our political views to change our government to a better and a new system. I want to share this because I want to enlighten every Filipino if what is election all about. We must realize that suffrage is all about rights, change and power. In this democracy the supreme power is in our hand to fight for our rights and privileges in order to have equality and social change.
The last barangay and SK election here in our province particularly, Eastern Samar, reflects what kind of people are we. We are not after our rights but we are after money. It’s a sad reality that our election is a money contest. Where are our rights? Where are our principles? Where is law? And above all, where is COMELEC?
I would like to address this problem to the Commission on Election since it’s their obligation to act. Is vote buying an excuse to law? For how many years this is the system in our province. Vote buying is very rampant, very obvious. We all know that it is illegal for it’s against the law, but why is it that here in our province, vote buying is already a practice? No wonder why we have lots of corrupt officials. We people doesn’t think that this money is nothing but a replacement of our right and a big insult to our self. The big irony is that, many people are against vote buying but then, most of them accept money in exchange to their vote. It may sounds like weird but it’s real. Majority of us accept the money offer.
To the COMELEC, don’t be incredulous! We all know that all of us are aware what’s happening around our province. Where is your action? Vote buying is the origin of corruption here in Eastern Samar. It teaches our young people to violate our rights and laws. Dear people let us evaluate our self. Are we violating our own rights? When this practice will end? If there will be no election at all?
